Overview

I completed a 12-month internship which began in-office in January of 2023, and continued hybrid. I worked primarily as part of the Business and development team within the Aquanow Analytics Cloud organization.

My work encompasses an end-to-end design solutions for Aquanow dashboard editing including research, user-testing, interface design, prototyping, feature hand-off, and developing Aquanow's first functional design systems incorporating WCAG 2.0 accessibility guidelines for a more inclusive user experience.

I collaborated with product managers, engineers, and design leads during all stages of the product life-cycle from concept until beyond delivery.

Much of my work is under a NDA, but I would be happy to speak more about my time at Aquanow and the projects I worked on over a call or during an in-person interview.

Overview

Samsung Knox Cloud Solutions

Samsung Knox Cloud Solutions (KCS) is a cloud-based platform that lets businesses manage, secure, and configure Samsung devices from anywhere.

IT teams can deploy devices, enforce security policies, and monitor performance in real time, all without physical access. Beyond management, KCS provides analytics and insights that help organizations track assets, optimize workflows, and maintain operational control across large-scale device fleets.

Design Systems

Starting my first project on the KCS Design System, I was responsible for building the design system documentation guideline and designing core components such as SelectList, Dialog, Button Menu, Accordion, and more. I collaborated closely with designers and developers to synthesize research, define component behaviour, and document usage patterns so that the system would be consistent and scalable for both current and future team members.

Weekly design critique sessions helped refine components and ensure alignment with engineering during the transition of Figma components to Storybook. This work allowed me to create a comprehensive, actionable reference that ensures designers and developers can efficiently build and maintain cohesive interfaces across KCS products.

Highlights

Design decisions need context, not just replication.

When building the KCS Design System and designing components like SelectList, Dialog, Button Menu, and Accordion, I initially thought referencing industry-standard design systems would be enough to guide our team. But I quickly realized that our workflows, user needs, and enterprise constraints were unique, and blindly copying patterns didn’t solve our problems. This taught me the importance of synthesizing research, adapting patterns thoughtfully, and documenting decisions clearly so that designers and engineers could apply them effectively in our specific system.

'Explore' was one of the main features in this application, but it was also the feature that went under the most iteration and time. Initially, I designed the map in Two-Dimension where the user scroll downwards to search planets they would like to visit. During user testing and critiques, users found this interaction boring, and felt like a lot of illustrations and interactions were flat.

To solve this issue, I designed the map interactions less linear; to give users' more variety and fun when exploring the planets. Overall, this solution gave the interface a more interesting layout, making it more visually engaging. The user can scroll around the map, explore each planets, visit to learn and select questions to ask about local businesses. This interaction changes allowed our application to be more gamifying by showing the gray area - locked planets on the right.

To ensure all elements of the app and print media follow the same design language, I developed a branding guideline and illustrations by considering icons, shape design and colour palette. I have also redesigned non-gendered clothings to align with Bye-nary's goal in helping non-binary and trans people.

This project allowed me to gain more experience in prototyping, and help to bring interfaces to life with more complex motion. Being able to adapt quickly to interface changes allowed me to develop my thinking process and workflow for collaboration between UI and prototyping.

It has helped me professionally as well, as this was a large-scale project in a short time frame. It allowed me think more rapidly, and develop more clear design decisions.
